Mandi McDowell LPC Associate

Hi, I'm Mandi McDowell LPC Associate. After graduating high school, I enrolled in university while working full-time. It taught me the value of my education simply because I paid for it. After graduating with my bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting, I passed the CPA exam and entered the corporate world. This stage of my life did not last long. The culture and demands of the financial world contrasted with my desire to help people.

My Early Focus

Special education always appealed to me, and getting my teacher's certification was an easy transition. My thirteen years in the field allowed me to work with Pre-K to Senior + students. As an educator, I concentrated on my students' mental health. My focus gravitated toward building resilience before academics. The more confident a student feels, the greater their success in all areas of their lives. That was my concentration in the classroom.

On Being a Rebel and Critical Thinking

Covid came and tested each one of us. Never a conformist, I questioned the validity of mandates and could not reconcile myself to wearing a mask or taking the unquestioning stance of "science." In my heart, my role as an educator held me to a high moral standard. What I modeled to my students had to be honest and trustworthy. Refusing to wear a mask quickly ushered me out of education. Knowing the effects of the experience on me, it was an easy transition into counseling.

With much prayer, I enrolled in seminary, where I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling and began working with Dr. Irons at Hope Harbor Counseling. It was the first time I felt called to a profession. Watching God work in the counseling room has blessed my clients and me. Thankful each day for the work God has and is doing in my life, I bear witness to my clients' healing. My prayer is to share the love of Christ with my clients.
